WELCOME | ברוכים הבאים

Welcome to the Portuguese Synagogue of Amsterdam!

Kahal Kados Talmud Tora was founded in 1639 by Jews who fled from Spain and Portugal to the Netherlands. We are an orthodox Sephardic community, attached to its traditions and customs, with an open view of the outside world.

A timeless place of culture, tradition and impressive architecture

Discover who we are

The Portuguese Israelite Community regularly organizes a variety of activities, including Shabbat dinners, lectures, and children’s workshops, that celebrate our rich traditions and strengthen the community. Whether you are interested in religious services, cultural events, or educational programs, our calendar offers something for everyone.

A spiritual home for young and old

A Home for Tradition and Connection

The Portuguese Israelite Community is a home for all who are connected to the rich heritage of Sephardic Judaism. Our doors are open to members of all generations, from young to old, and offer a place where faith, tradition and community go hand in hand.

We organize religious services, including Shabbat and holiday celebrations, that offer both a spiritual and cultural experience. In addition, we have a wide range of activities, such as educational programs, lectures, concerts and social events, through which we not only cherish our heritage but also forge new connections.

For families and young people, we offer specific programs that bridge tradition and modern life, with a focus on both religious and social growth. Our community is not only there to celebrate, but also to support in times of need, with a listening ear and practical help.

The Portuguese Israelite Community is more than a place; it is a living tradition, a source of inspiration and a family where everyone is welcome. Together we celebrate the past, the present and the future.

“The Esnoga is a monument of hope and resilience, where tradition and faith come together and past, present and future meet.”

The Esnoga celebrates its 350th anniversary, will you join us?
